May 10, 1999: Team USA won their final game at the World Hockey Championships. Team USA's goals were scored by Smolinski (Weinrich, Mottau), Mottau (Cullen, Donato), and Cullen (Donato). I think Team USA will end up 6th overall for the Tournament, which is a huge improvement over last years 12th place finish. It would really help if more of the big name guys would participate in the tournament.. like do they have no pride in their country or what?? So now it's go Team Canada!! I'm hoping they win the Gold =)

May 9, 1999: Team USA lost to Team Canada.. in a very fast game! Literally it was over in 2 hours and 15 min! There were very few penalties.. only 6.. 5 of those were Team Canada. Of those penalties Niedermayer was in the box once, and Whitney twice. Notable goals by Canada were by Scotty Walker and Ray Whitney. McCabe also had an assist.. and a rather interesting try at scoring a gol.. let's just say his own teamates were laughing at him after =) Team USA's goal was scored by Mottau (Cullen, Donato). Hedican had a couple of very good shots on goal.. he was also wearing no visor, and is an Assitant Captain =). Other than that it was nice to see a game on TV.. but I definitley don't like how they place ads on the players.. and by the what's with the patches on the Ref's? Team Canada next plays Finland, and will advance to the medal round, Team USA plays Switzerland and will not advance=P.

May 7, 1999: Team USA lost to Team Finland.. or Teemu Selanne. He's the one that scored the winning goal =P Team USA had a 2-0 lead at one point thanks to 2 Goals by Vancouver's Trent Klatt, but Finland game back with 3 goals of there own before Team USA tied it. The final nail in the coffin was a goal by Teemu Selanne. Team USA's goals were scored by Trent Klatt (2), the first assisted by Johnson. The other goal was scored by Chorske (Legwand, Johnson). Bret's contribution to scoring... nothing. He ended up in the penalty box twice though.. once for Cross-checking, the other for Roughing. Looks like Team USA really needs to work on their penalty kill, 3 of Team Finland's goals were scored on the PP (although not while Bret was in the box). Next up is Team Canada Sunday morning.

May 5, 1999: Team USA lost to the Czeck Republic 4-3 early Wednesday. The game was a close one, with the score at one point being 3-3. Team USA's goals were scored by Emma (Smolinski, Hedican), Bisset (Cullen, Donato), and Keczmer (Smolinski, Emma). Bret was again playing on the starting line, with Barry Richter. He had 1 assist on the first goal, a 2 min penalty for High-Sticking though lead to the Czech Republic taking a 3-1 lead on a Power Play goal. Another High Sticking penalty by Keczmer is what got the Czech Republic the win. Hedican ended the game +1 and also had 4 shots on goal. Team USA is now into the quarterfinals where they next play the leader of Group D, which will be either Finland or Russia.

May 3, 1999: Team USA defeated Austria 5-2 in their second preliminary game. Team USA's goals were scored by Tamer (Donato), Smolinski (Weinrich, Emma), Donato (Cullen), Richter (Chorske, Johnson), and Smolinski (Unassisted). Bret was on the 2nd d-man pair, also on the 2nd line were Klatt and Hendrickson.. some guys Bret knows =) Hedican had 1 shot on goal and was +2 for the game. Next report May 5th.

May 1, 1999: Team USA defeated Team Japan 7-1 in their first preliminary game. Team USA's goals were scored by Bisset (Cullen), Donato (Hendrickson), Klatt (Miller, Hendrickson), Richter (Emma, Legwand), Weinrich, Keczmer (Smolinski), and Bisset (Donato, Cullen). Bret was on the first d-man pair, although who knows if that lasted. His plus/minus was zero.. since he was on ice for the lone Japan goal, and on for one of Team USA's. Other than that the only stat he has to show for the game is a 2 min hooking penalty in the 2nd period.
