The 1998 Canucks CarnivalAngela's Story
I went to the Carnival wearing my Bret Hedican signed jersey hoping that I would be able to find him at one of the stands so I could take a picture with him (I brought my camera.) When I got there and found out that he was in the photo booth, I was really excited. I bought ten tokens and waited in the line-up. I was pretty surprised that it wasn't that long. When it was my turn I sat beside him, he put his arm around me and the Carnival volunteer snapped a picture. Bret asked me how I was doing and shook my hand. I was really nervous. As I was about to leave Bret pulled me back and looked at the back of my jersey. He said that it was a good-looking jersey and I replied by giving him a thumbs up and saying that it's the best. He smiled, with that gorgeous smile of his, and said bye. I left filled with joy that I actually talked to him and took a picture with him. With my own camera, I also took a picture with Brian Noonan, Brad May and Steve Staios. Steve was really nice and I asked him to sign my jersey since Bret's autograph and a few other players autographs were already on there. He said sure and signed it. My sister took a picture with Alex Mogilny, but she was really disappointed because he wasn't really friendly. He didn't even say hi to her unless nodding his head is his way of saying hi. I had so much fun at the Carnival. I can't wait until next year when I'll go back and do it all over again. Joyce's Story My name is Joyce (Hockey Girl) and I'm 14 years old and this was going to be my first time going and I got there half an hour earlier then I was suppose to to meet my friend so I decided to get off at the Main St Skytrain station and went to Starbucks. I decided to get a Mocha (bad decision: I got all hyper and VERY aggressive) When I got to GM place my friend was late and I was really mad. We got in and the first place I went was to see Pavel Bure (MY FAVOURITE HOCKEY PLAYER and hubby to be:) and meeting him made my day. The day was March 29th and I knew it was Pavel's birthday on the 31st so my friend and I decided to get him a present. We got him a beenie baby. One from the Disney Store, I got him LUCKY from the 101 Dalmations. I just hope that he didn't put it somewhere like at the back of his closet. We included a letter and a card. In the card we included our e-mail addresses and address (hint, hint). When I met him, he was WAY cuter in person and I was SOO nervous!! I had my camera with me so I snapped some pictures. He was like Oh wow and signed my flag and hockey card. After that I felt it was easier to talk to the other hockey players. To me hockey players are HUGE superstars and you don't think of them as people. I also met the other hockey players. I saw Bryan McCabe and went over to him to get autographs. My other friend (that didn't go) who's in LOVE with Bryan asked me to tell him that she loves him and that he needs braces. I got up the courage to tell him and he gave me two very cute smiles. After that I started to really like him. That was when my friend and I got separated. I was really aggressive so I went everywhere really fast and was always pushing. I also met Brad May and he is SOO nice. I started asking him about Matty (Ohlund) who is my other favourite player and who wasn't there and he told me he was resting at home probably sleeping and I'm not for sure but I also told him to remember that it was Pavel's birthday. I didn't expect this but after he signed my flag, he just grabbed a Canucks sticker and signed it too. Now he's one of my favourite players. I also met Bret Hedican and I told him about Pavel's b-day and told him to do a trick to him and he just smiled. Everyone was waiting and the Carnival was almost over so I had to go quickly and I didn't get a chance to talk to him. My friend met Archie (Irbe) and she said he was really nice. Most of the volunteers let me take pictures but I think while I saw Bret Hedican a lady went behind me and said I wasn't suppose to do that but I took a picture of him anyway. Since we both had cameras and went separate ways we got to meet different hockey players and all together we got a lot of pictures. I can't wait to go next year. This is a great fundraiser and it's a great way to make a lot of money for those who are in need and next time I won't be drinking anymore strong coffee. Please visit my web site and sign my guestbook. Thanks. All the pictures I took are there. BTW A couple weeks later, I got home and received a letter from the Canucks beca use I saw the logo. I thought it was them trying to get me to buy tickets next year and I looked at the return address and it said P. Bure. I got so excited and opened it and it was an autographed hockey card. I guess putting in my address really paid off. |
