Hedican's Return to Vancouver
November  5th, 1999

I had the opportunity to chat with Bret for a few minutes before the November  5th game versus the Canucks. Since Bure returning to Vancouver was the big story, I figured that they'd focus on him, and I wouldn't see any Bret interviews. I watched the Canucks pregame skate and noticed Bure came out near the zamboni entrance to do an interview with local newsman John McKeachie. I continued to watch the Canucks practice until a few minutes later when my friend Jennie said "There's Bret!" and I looked over to see McKeachie preparing to interview him. I decided to go over and say hi. I was standing in the stands behind the camera man, and Bret looked up and I said hi. He said hi and asked how I was doing, I said good, and asked him the same. My friends came over and we watched the interview (although we couldn't really hear it, and it went out live on the news). Right after that, he started to walk over to leave, but stopped so someone could take a picture of him, so I went over when she was done, and he extended his hand and shook my hand. I said hi, asked him how Florida was treating him (good).

Next, he surprised me because he knew my name. I was surprised he knew considering I'd forgotten to introduce myself to him for the past 3 years=) He said "No, I remember you, you do the website."  I told him how Meeko was going to the Edmonton and Calgary games, and he felt bad because of the suspension and I told him I thought Colin Campbell was an idiot=) He said he'd called Sami Salo, and I thought that was really nice. He said hi to Jodi, Jennie and Pam, who were with me, and then I thanked him and told him to have a good night. He shook my hand again and thanked me for the work I've done, saying he really appreciated it. So never say this guy doesn't appreciate his fans, because he really does. The NHLPA should really have an award for Player Who's Nicest To His Fans....Bret would win=)

So despite the fact he wasn't playing, I had a chance to talk with him, and it was nice.
