Other Info: Bret likes to spend the off season at Gull Lake near Brainerd Minnesota, and also in San Francisco. In high school Bret played hockey, football and soccer, and went on to play hockey at St. Cloud State. His team in the Courtnall's Classic Fishing Derby finished 2nd I believe, in the category of heaviest combined weight (salmon) a few years back. He participated in Mess's Catch Classic in 1998 (and got a nice shirt out of it lol). He also enjoys playing the guitar, and has performed on Rock 101 CFMI in Vancouver, and at a local Vancouver nightclub. He also taught former Vancouver Canuck Adrian Aucoin how to play. Bret's roomed with (at various times) Mike Peca,  Adrian Aucoin and Mark Parrish. Bret has also appeared on a TV show called 'Strange Luck' (it's a blink and you miss it shot=) which was cancelled after one season. Bret was rooming with the star of the show, D.B. Sweeney at the time. Interestingly enough, D.B. played a hockey player-turned-figure skater in the movie 'The Cutting Edge'. Bret was listed as enjoying Drawing, Fishing, Hunting and Golf in the 1991/92 Team USA Yearbook. In 1996 he competed in the All-Star Skills Competition in the Fastest Skater category and finished 2nd to Mike Gartner.
